Sophia Loizou is a music producer, author and AV artist working at the intersection of contemporary electronic music, speculative fiction and the ecological. Central to her practice is an ongoing investigation of sonic fiction as a generative, theory-making device that operates from within sound. Focussing on technologically created or mediated forms, her work spawns concepts that speculate on unspoken histories and possible futures, highlighting the deep connections between living systems, technological developments and earthly flows.

Often using data drawn from complex systems such as oceanic motion or thunderstorms, Sophia nurtures interdependent sonic forms, which grow and develop in response to the dynamic flows and energy of their environment. Her practice implements extreme sound-design techniques and bespoke instruments that utilise archival, field and studio recordings, and virtual sound-sources. Through affective encounters with these sounds Sophia has developed a novel approach to materialising works of sonic fiction.

Sophia’s creative work has been released on leading independent record labels, exhibited & performed across the UK and Europe, and has achieved international acclaim through pinnacle music press.  She is currently a PhD candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London and hosts a monthly radio show on Rinse.fm | Swu.fm.
